Athletic Background

I have been competitive all my life, starting with my immersion in competitive swimming from a young age through high school. When I entered college, I thought my days of competing were behind me but, fortunately, that all changed within a couple of months. Before I knew it I was walking onto the track team as a sprinter in the 100 and 200 meter. I enjoyed the experience but after my first season, I was missing the water and wanted a challenge that could be measured by more than seconds. I trained for a sprint triathlon during the summer and loved it!

I finished my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science juggling track, cross country, and short-course triathlons. When I started my Master’s degree, I felt it was the right time to not only continue my Exercise Science education but also continue my triathlon journey so I signed up for my first Ironman. Ten short months later I found myself crossing the finish line and on the podium of my age group at my first Ironman.

After graduating with my Master’s in Exercise Science I entered the world of academia and taught undergraduate Exercise Science classes and coached triathletes part-time. I was finding that coaching was my true passion and could feel my desire to help athletes reach their athletic goals more every semester.

At the same time, I was continuing my journey with IRONMAN racing, winning my age group in both 70.3 and 140.6 events and qualifying for the IRONMAN World Championships in 2014 and 2015. After exploring other avenues in the health and fitness industry I truly knew that working with triathletes was my true passion and committed to full time coaching in the winter of 2016.

More About Carly

Triathlon is about so much more than putting together a strong swim, bike, and run. It’s about looking at the big picture and the process of setting goals, being determined to reach those goals, and most importantly, believing in yourself and the learning that takes place along the way!

I believe the true art of coaching is taking time to really understand the athletes I work with and their personal needs. I view consistency and communication as the two most important variables in determining success. Doing the hard work of committing to a custom-built training plan and communicating regularly and openly with your coach reduces the probability of setbacks, accelerates fitness, and keeps you motivated. Only by pushing your limits and hitting key targeted workouts will you be able to make your goals a reality!
